Marketing for the Model You’re Selling To

Despite what marketers may tell you, there is no one-size-fits-all marketing strategy that works for everyone. The reality? It's not about one universally perfect formula, it's about uncovering the right formula for you. And once you get it right, you'll have an endless supply of qualified leads, begging to buy your offer from you.

Before you can make any money, however, you need to generate interest in what it is that you're doing. But how do you create interest and drive traffic? The answer is marketing. But, the marketing that you do in your business needs to be effective for the model in which you are currently selling, whether it’s one-to-one, hybrid, or one-to-many. So, before firing off that email or crafting that social media post, get crystal clear on two things: who you're speaking to and the problem you're solving for them.

Sales, Dating, and Lead Generation

Did you know there's a surprising parallel between sales and dating? Imagine someone spotting you from across the room or visiting your profile for the first time. When someone engages with your content, they're transitioning from stranger to potential interest. This is your lead. However, the journey doesn't end when they become clients. Like in any good relationship, you've got to keep nurturing it. And remember, not all leads are created equal. Your true aim? Qualified leads. And you know what’s really cool? There are both active and passive ways to generate leads.

Search, Discoverability, and Creating Content

At the heart of any online business lies content. Whether you're writing a blog, producing videos, or networking on LinkedIn, your content needs to serve dual purposes: capturing attention and nurturing relationships. And while platforms like Google remain dominant, it's crucial to understand where your target audience hangs out. Google may hold 90% of the search engine market, but younger populations are not gravitating towards it in the way millennials and older generations are. So, if your audience is on the younger side of the spectrum, then you definitely need to focus on different types of content. Remember, visibility fosters discoverability.

Warm Outreach

I get it, content creation can be overwhelming. But play it right, and it will serve you for years to come. That being said, I know you could use some quick wins. So I want to talk about how we could get faster results and quicker wins. That’s where warm outreach comes in. Let me be the one to remind you that your network wants to support you. It's easy to convince yourself that you're a burden or you're bothering someone, but they want to help. You just have to reach out.

Beyond just your contacts, there are also 'connectors', individuals who have an innate talent to link people. Think local community leaders, coaches, or active nonprofit members. They can be the gateway to uncharted opportunities.

Foolproof Strategies for Free Lead Generation

There are nine foolproof methods for incentivizing someone else to give you free leads. You can check out Episode 783: Leads on Autopilot for a deep dive into strategies one and two: whitelabeling and paid referrals. The other seven strategies that I break down in today’s episode are also hugely effective and can make all the difference!

First off is strategy three: utilizing the concept of “Right Industry, Wrong Fit.” With this method you want to look for professionals in the same industry as you, who can refer leads that don't fit their niche but might fit yours. This means that you can swap leads. Turn this into something that you're consistently doing for each other. It's truly a win-win for both of you.

With strategy four, think about creating industry partners. These are typically established non-competing businesses in the same industry, usually with complementary services. Wedding vendors, for example, will often circulate the same client to all of their top vendors for other services. The venue may recommend a caterer, a florist, or a DJ. Think about who could be industry partners, and complementary to what you are doing or offering.

Use strategy five to establish a rewards program. Incentivize existing clients to refer others to you by offering rewards for leads that convert. By offering them rewards for successful referrals, they're motivated to spread the word, bringing you warm leads through personal recommendations.

This leads us to strategy six: community involvement. Engaging in local events or volunteering isn't just about visibility, it's about forging genuine connections. As community members witness your dedication, they're more inclined to recommend you, knowing the value you bring. Volunteering at a local nonprofit, for example, will expose you to other business professionals and show them what you're great at.

Strategy seven, or borrowed land, is all about leveraging platforms or events initiated by others. Whether it's guest appearances, workshops, or features, you can reach a new audience while also benefiting from the host's established credibility.

Strategy eight is utilizing affiliates. These are collaborative partnerships where businesses promote your services for a commission, which can exponentially expand your reach, especially in the B2B arena.

Lastly, there’s the magic of the viral effect. It’s not about fleeting trends but about creating content or campaigns that resonate so deeply with audiences that they feel compelled to share. It's genuine engagement, where your message aligns perfectly with what the audience values.

In employing any "Leads on Autopilot" strategy, you need to remember that mutual benefit is key. You have to ensure that your partners, or referrers, have a good reason to share leads with you and that they trust your business will provide value for the leads that they send your way.

Three Ways to Amplify

My journey is rooted in these very principles. And guess what? Even in this ever-evolving digital age, they still hold water, which was demonstrated in my experiment where I launched a new agency from scratch following the same principles just a decade later and generated over 260,000 dollars in revenue in just 12 months!
