Does Your Brand Need to Up Its Game?

Branding is like dating. A lot like dating. I may be off the market (and married to my best friend), but I still know how dating works.

Imagine you are looking for your soul mate on Match or eHarmony and you create your online profile. You obviously use the best photo of you, 15 lbs. lighter, in your favorite outfit. You pimp out your description with words like adventurous, dog lover and foodie. You flirt and you act like you, but only on your best day with 3 shots of espresso.

What’s people’s biggest fear with online dating? Fraud. What if they aren’t really who they say they are? What if they are 15lbs heavier? What if I can’t handle them on their mediocre days? Or worse, what if this is all a scam?

See your brand is a lot like that. Except instead of putting the best version of yourself 15lbs. lighter with pimped out copy, some of you are only using a brand that looks like you on a mediocre day. Or maybe even not you at all.

Your brand is more than a logo. It is your look, feel, your outward image(ry), colors, voice, tone & more. It’s even crazy things like how you dress for a client meeting or how you socialize.

I get it. It’s hard. What does a brand “look” like on it’s best day? How would you even know if you are succeeding or not? It’s much more simple than you think. Your brand must be a true reflection of you, your business, purpose and mission. It’s as if you erected your business principles and values and stood them in front of a full-length mirror. If what is shining back at you isn’t the image you were wanting to create, then you probably need to take a step back and start answering the following.

Is your Brand Helping or Hurting Your Business?

As a business owner you get caught up in the details. And sometimes lose sight of the bigger picture. Most of your clients have no idea how much time you spend working for them, on the phone, doing paperwork, or with your family. They just see what you present to them, things like your website and social media get way more face time then you will probably ever get with them in person. Is your current branding helping or hurting that big picture you want to portray?

  • Are you attracting your Ideal client/customer/reader?

  • Is your social media growing organically and steadily?

  • Are you confident with your current brand image?

  • Does your brand portray your values, passion and purpose?
