Myth Busting: Here's a Reframe for Beliefs That Might Be Holding You Back

Episode 620: Show Notes

If you are a service provider finding yourself in need of a little bit of a serotonin boost and you’re looking for a pep talk from your Biz Fairy Godmothers, this is the episode for you! We have some really valuable reframes for you; some shifts in thinking. We see you in ways that you perhaps don’t see yourself, and we want to share those insights with you. We’re going to share some really cool, kind, impactful things with you today, so prepare to be showered in words of support. It might make you feel uncomfortable and you may have a hard time accepting the compliments, but here’s the thing: it’s because we genuinely care!

No one else is saying these things to you and it’s important to us that we pour back into you in the same way that you’ve poured into us over the years. We are ready for you to believe in yourself in the way that we believe in you. That means listening to the things we’re saying, truly taking them to heart, and allowing them to sink in and make an impact. Tune in to learn about the reframes that service providers need to hear right now and to find out what we see in you (it’s a lot!) so you can believe in yourself in new ways. Never fear, your Biz Fairy Godmothers are here!

What you NEED to Hear Right Now!

We need you to hear this and feel it at your core: You are the best at what you do and you do not have to play small anymore! You’ve put in the work and you’re making an impact where it matters most. It’s time to put that people-pleasing attitude to rest. You do not have to be everything to everybody and you truly can trust in your expertise.

Your Goals, Goldilocks Style

The comparison-itis of goals is rampant in the online service-based B2B industry. We tend to look at other people’s goals and try them on for size even if they don’t feel right for us. No matter how big or small your goals are, like Goldilocks, they’re just right for you! If your goals are audacious, good for you, there’s no need to let imposter syndrome in the room. That being said, you don’t need big, audacious goals either! There is no need and no way to quantify what an appropriate-sized goal is. You need to feel confident and comfortable in the goals you’re setting and you’re allowed to want more, but you get to decide what more means for you.

Achieve More By Doing Less

You absolutely can achieve more (time, happiness, etc) by doing less, and just because you don’t know how to go about it doesn’t mean it’s not possible. You can do this right now with your current skill set! We encourage you to accept THIS version of your business as good enough and to be at peace with your decision. You don’t have to be the mom that makes chef-quality lunches to be a good mom! We need to bring this philosophy into the workplace because our standards are way too high. Being busy and ultra-productive in work is overly glamorized and it really is time to let that one go! It is possible to create an ethical, profitable, and kickass business without driving yourself bananas. You can make a difference without being in a perpetual state of overwhelm.

In terms of ethics, it doesn’t help to be consumed by guilt about everything you should be doing better. Guilt doesn’t serve you or anyone else. Action, on the other hand, does, so drop the unnecessary guilt, and keep doing your best and continuing to improve. On the profit side, we need to stop giving money false meaning. Although changing our minds about money is mental work, it can be done in a way that’s healthy, fulfilling, and not necessarily all-consuming.

You Don’t Always Have To Have the Answer, but Here’s How To Find It

An important piece of the puzzle is accepting and honoring that there are things that you don’t know, and deciding to be intentional to take time out to learn and implement them. This is essential to the growth of your business and your mind. You may not know all the answers, but when you take time to invest in yourself, you can use your expertise to take action and solve problems. Just because you knew how to start your business doesn’t mean you should know exactly how to grow and maintain it from the get-go! If you hit a ceiling, that’s okay, you simply need to seek guidance. We all need support in various forms and there’s no need to be so hard on yourself. Your ability to be intentional about seeking opportunities to learn and implement IS the answer.

Trust Your Inner Compass

There is nothing to say that you can’t change course! The only thing that needs to remain constant is your ability to recognize what needs to be tweaked as you go. Many women fall into the trap of pushing decisions outside of themselves and seeking buy-in as reassurance, often from people who know nothing about business! You need to allow yourself to be fully at the helm and trust your inner guidance. It’s okay to hire coaches and consultants, but remember that the decision is ultimately yours! Do not discount your gut feelings. You can be guided, but you still have to steer the ship. We want to instill in you the belief that you are able to build a team that doesn’t simply ease your workload and maintain the business that you’ve built, but one that helps you grow.

Own Your Priorities and Personal Timeline

You do not need to feel guilty for prioritizing differently than the person next to you. It’s okay to be curious about the priorities of others but it’s important to be firm in that the decisions you make are the right ones for you. Many people find it difficult to set their priorities due to societal pressures, but you need to own your priorities even if it means you lose some connections along the way. Just as everyone has their own priorities, we all have our own timelines too! There is so much judgment directed towards those who stray from the beaten track, but why? There is never any need for comparison or rushing towards a goal if the timing feels off. In fact, we have observed that the more stable, healthy, functioning businesses are the ones that grow slower with intention, rather than seeking a “viral moment”.

We believe in you and your ability to lead your business with flexibility and intuition! To learn more, join us at our Freedom Conference at bossproject.com/conference.
