There’s something in the air at the moment; so many people are questioning themselves and their businesses, and there are a whole lot of very valid reasons for this (we are in the midst of a pandemic and heading towards a potential World War, after all). A lot of service providers have, as a result of these feelings of uncertainty and overwhelm, considered pivoting their business by adding different streams of revenue, changing their offerings, and so on. For anyone who is entertaining alternative ideas, we understand the allure, but we want to bring you back to reality and share with you what you should be doing during these challenging times instead!

We are big believers in pulling from the business practices of experts in the field, and we’ve been learning so much lately through all the books we’ve been reading (if you don’t have a Goodreads account, you need to get one!). We’re feeling very inspired to share these learnings with you, as well as the big question that we’ve been asking ourselves lately, which is, “How can we build a business in love, in ethics, in standards, in boundaries, and still hold expectations?” If you’re looking for some resources to get you motivated about your business, or if you just need a form of escapism to take you out of your busy life for a bit, you’ve come to the right place!

When was the last time you asked yourself what it is you really want out of your business? It’s easy to get caught up by other people’s dreams and desires, and to get taken in by advertising and marketing strategies which make you think you should be going in a certain direction with your business. We’ve noticed that many service providers are feeling bad about things that they really shouldn’t be feeling bad about, and a lot of the time that has to do with external pressure. It’s so important to get to a point where you are so comfortable with your own world view that you are able to take in ideas from the world around you and very quickly filter them down to suit the plans that you have laid out for your business.
A Pivot That We Regret Making (and How You Can Learn from Our Mistakes!) Small Tweaks Versus Dramatic Rebuilding
If you have a done-for-you service where you are implementing the work for your clients, and working one-on-one with them, things can start to get very overwhelming, and you may start to feel like the answer to getting your time back is to change your offering so that you spend less time working for your clients. Before you do that, listen to our advice on this topic; we have fallen into this trap more than once, and we’ve regretted it every time! We’re not saying that you shouldn’t ever pivot; we’re saying that sometimes small tweaks can be a whole lot more effective than starting over. You’ve already built a business; don’t throw that away, rather get in touch with us to learn how you can strengthen what you already have.

There are always going to be people who want certain things done for them, rather than having to spend the time doing the thing themselves. We see a large number of people who are integrating done-for-you services into their businesses, and not enough service providers offering those sought-after services! In our opinion, done-for-you services are most definitely not going extinct, and if you’re feeling downtrodden as a service-based business, you should reconsider the way you are running your business and what you are charging your services, before you decide to change your business altogether!
