Digital Marketing Trends: The Rise of Faceless Marketing

Episode 832: Show Notes

Faceless marketing is developing its own niche and I’ve recently started exploring what would happen if I utilized faceless marketing to appeal to a wider audience. I think this gives people an opportunity to show up online without having to worry about what they look like while still making marketing personal. This is for those of you who want to sell a digital product, not necessarily for someone looking to build a local-based business. I’m going to be sharing so many marketing tips that are easy to apply so make sure you subscribe to the show and follow me on Instagram!

First off, let’s define what faceless marketing is. People are leveraging this trend, specifically on Instagram, to build a brand without showing their faces and with the use of stock imaging. I feel like this trend is just a natural continuation of things like faceless blogs for example. People can utilize stock and place a focus on their words without worrying about what they look like. And it really does work if it’s done correctly! Faceless marketing still keeps the human element without associating an identity therefore making it more relatable.

Why Faceless Marketing Works (and Has Always Worked)

Ultimately, people want to feel like they’re a part of something. They want to be a part of someone’s story and I feel like this is possible with this strategy which is why it is working! It is effective. I want to bring you strategies that are tried and tested and working. The concept of faceless marketing has actually existed forever – think about ‘Dear Abby’ in newspapers for example! One of the potential challenges with faceless marketing is that it mostly looks identical. All the stock looks pretty much the same!

The Number One Thing That Builds a Brand Long-Term

There is so much potential for some people to explore this and create a signature look, not necessarily with stock but rather with the strategies that the stock is providing, and then create a recognizable style because that is what builds a brand long-term. There is a way to market your brand artistically without sharing your personal identity and you can even take it one step further and remove your name entirely! My concern around this specific strategy is that so many people are teaching faceless marketing that it’s becoming quite strange and looks way too similar.

The Best Way to Utilize Faceless Marketing

I think the most attainable, tasteful, and effective way to utilize this is to use it in combination. This means that you are still focused on either a personal or company brand and you mix in faceless marketing following this trendy look. That brings people to your page in a way that feels familiar and then they are able to see all the other kinds of branding you’re putting out there. I did some research about where companies are getting their stock from and I found Social Stocks. It was incredibly effective! But your copy is still the most important thing you put out there! I think the way this is going to be most useful is for people who are using it in a hybrid way. You can make use of stock footage so that you can spend more time writing and then you can save time and be focused on other aspects of your business.

That can be sprinkled into the rest of your content that can be more personalized. I don’t know how long this trend is going to last but for now, it’s working so why not jump on the trend? If you want to explore it, I want to share some websites I’ve heard about and feel will be quite good. I’ve mentioned Social Stocks which works very well. You can also try The Studio Brief, The Forefolk, and My Vanilla Gallery. Again, I don’t know how good they are and how well they will last but if you want to see the vibes I’m talking about, this is where you should be looking! This gives you the opportunity to move away from the spotlight and focus on marketing without worrying about your personal look! I’m excited about this and I plan to dive deeper into this in my new program.
