We break down how we use affirmations and how we integrate them into our routines so you can start to do it too. Specifically, we identify how affirmations can start to kind of tap in and shift and change the icky imposter syndrome that a lot of us deal with, especially as creatives. So we are going to help do the mindset work that is going to help you to create a daily routine, to encourage you have a better mindset and a better outlook on your business.

Navigating the Imposter Syndrome

The imposter syndrome is something that comes up for a lot of business owners. There are some days you just wake up and you don’t feel like you deserve what you have been given in this world. Or you feel like you are not as good as people think you are or treat you as. That’s icky and you just do not deserve to feel that way, ever. One major way of dealing with the imposter syndrome is by doing daily affirmations. For us, it took months of consistent, daily affirmations to help confirm that what we were doing was worth it and valuable. Knowing this helps you take your place in your business and the industry overall.

What the Heck is an Affirmation?

An affirmation, by definition, is an assertion that something exists or is declared true as a statement. It’s a fact. You are saying something as a statement and you are saying it is fact. Whether that is an actual true thing or not at the time you write it, is irrelevant. An affirmation is meant to be a positive declarative statement. It’s not something you’re supposed to judge. The cool part is that you, as the maker of the affirmation, are the one who decides if it happened or not. You get to decide the varying degree as to which that affirmation did come true, or maybe that affirmation still needs to continue to be affirmed so that it does come true.

Our Favorite Daily Affirmations in Practice

For us, we have two different categories for our favorite daily affirmations. Some of them are very specific, like when we have a launch coming up, or a webinar to host. We get very specific about how much money we want to make, how many students we want to welcome in, and how many members we want to have. Whatever it may be, we get very specific about that number. The second type of affirmation is where, if life in general is feeling very chaotic, we will put out a word that is the opposite of how we are feeling, so that it starts to become a reality. There is no hard and fast rule about what your affirmations should be, and there is no wrong way of doing it.

Analyzing Your Month To Set New Affirmations

Life is unpredictable sometimes, and you need to constantly adjust your schedule to adapt to stay on course towards your goals. The journey may turn out a little bit differently to what you expected, but that is okay. These affirmations are going to help you form more positive thoughts and they are going to help you be a more positive person. As part of the follow through method program that we have, we work through everything that we give our coaching clients ourselves. Part of our monthly analysis involves setting a monthly affirmation for the coming month that’s going to help us put us in the right mind frame to accomplish our goals.

Commit to Consistent Brain Dumps So You Can Stay Focused

Your affirmations can be great tools for gut checks and staying accountable, and can almost be like your boss or your coworker. Affirmations can remind you to write things down, and get your ideas down on paper or typed out on your organizer program. Once you’ve cleared it out of your head, you can finally take a breath and refocus your efforts. Sometimes you have to get it out of your head and there are so many places that you can do these “brain dumps”. For us we use Trello, which is just one place to get it out so that we can focus on the work and focus on making our business better. You can also hang it up in your office, write a little post it note, or put it in your phone. Do whatever makes sense for you to get it out. Just get it out of your head, and don’t keep it in there.

Do It In 30 Seconds or Less!

When it comes to writing down your affirmations, do not spend more than a minute on them. In fact, try to get then done in 30 seconds or less! Gut check with yourself to really understand what’s going on today. Now, do not just make up a word for fun, but do not overthink it either. Your affirmation can be a word, a phrase, it can even be a lyric from a song or a verse or a quote from your favorite book or author. It could be a scripture from the Bible, it could be anything! It doesn’t have to be from your own brain. Start collecting your favorite affirmations in a place where you can go pick one that you have already collected, making your life much easier later.

Turning Negative Thoughts Into a Positive Mindset

Oftentimes, people struggle with affirmations because they are major self-doubters. There will be a lot of negative thoughts floating around in your head, which can make it hard to think positively about yourself. People are often a lot meaner to themselves than they would ever be to anyone else. So keep in mind, if you would not call up your friend and say those things to their face, then do NOT say them about yourself!
