Episode 278: Show Notes
Welcome back to the show! Today’s episode of The Strategy Hour Podcast is a breakdown of our recent amazing and wonderful Boss Project Summit! This was pretty much the biggest thing we have ever done at TCC and it has just wrapped, so what better to talk about than that? This behind the scenes look at the summit and the statistics that came out of it is just a taste of things to come. The few days over which we held the event had a massive impact and we had fun and made money and we cannot wait to share more of the in depth information we have gathered.
Bear in mind that it is still early stages in terms of the outcomes, which we will continue to collect and collate, but there is definitely more than enough to talk about today and give you the inside scoop after all the madness! We would be remiss not to send out a big thank you to everyone who made the summit possible and we are eternally grateful to our sponsors, contributors, the participants, and each other for bringing this great thing to life! We have to admit that we are already thinking about next time and how we might make it better, stronger, and more of everything it was this time!
Announcement, Promotion, and Signups
We had high hopes for our first online summit but really never knew how many people would end up being involved and taking part! In the end we had over eleven thousand signups which is just crazy to us. We started promotion for the event just over a month ahead of it which is much longer than we usually do but this time we did not get tired of talking and posting about it. It also made sense seeing as how complex and multilayered the summit was that we would have more of a build up to it going live. We got more and more speakers and more and more sponsors and as result were just more and more excited! When it came to our VIP passes we tried to make them as affordable as possible to give as many people to access to all that goodness and we ended up selling just over one thousand of the VIP passes which works out to around a 9% upgrade rate. On reflection we may have fewer increases in price across the days leading up to the summit and possibly just have the free sign up and then two different prices available for VIPs.
Messaging and Logins Across the Summit
We have to say that the energy from the attendees was just phenomenal! We are literally breathless with gratitude for all the involvement and enthusiasm. There were such high engagement statistics it is just crazy. Our stats show that over one hundred and seventy-one thousand messages were delivered in four days! There were thousands and thousands of logged hours from participants and we can see that generally those people logging in stayed for the entirety of that session. We do want to reach higher for more butts in seats next time but we must also acknowledge our summit followed the trends of most online events like it, with more attendance earlier during the period and this waning as the days passed. We were just under the average 5% attendance rate that is typical for these kind of events and although we are happy to be pretty much hitting those numbers we would like to increase this next time. We are already thinking of ways to make involvement more beneficial and more engaging!
Money, Money, Money!
We really had a blast during our first summit and on top of that we made some great money in the process! As it stands the event brought in just over 65 thousand dollars and this is through both sales and sponsorships. It is worth noting too that the summit also boosts sales in other areas of our business and these initial numbers we are working with right now will most likely need to be updated in the future. These are not deep dive figures, just the stats that are most readily available to us at the moment. We can see that the summit boosted other sales by a minimum of $12k! So in the end we really did achieve all of our actual goals for the project. We brought in new faces, created new content, put interesting people in the same room and raised awareness for everyone involved! We think everyone deserves a big pat on the back for all of this! Checked boxes all round! And at the same time we cannot wait to refine this process, automate it and make it better for the next round, but this was one hell of a successful beta version!
Reflecting on a Great First Summit
In the history of Think Creative Collective the only thing that has currently outsold the Boss Project Summit is our Trello for Business offer and that has been running for almost two and a half years. We have not quit working out our ROI for the entire thing yet but all signs point towards great returns and we think we are headed for about a 4x rate of return! All of this being said, the summit was a huge amount of work for both of us and everyone else involved. There was a ton of technical and manual stuff that had to be done. This included uploading videos and updating web pages constantly. Abagail and Emily also sat through every single session that was hosted and were there to answer any questions that may have arisen during this time. The team that worked on the ins and outs was about ten people strong and everyone really gave it their all, and even our sponsors lent a hand! To everyone who helped, took part and brought energy, we are so happy and grateful and cannot wait to share the next summit with you!
