Ready for Change? How to Know When it’s Time for a New Website Design

Having your website redesigned is no easy decision, and we don’t typically encourage it if there’s no reason for it. You have to consider the process of transferring content, how this could impact your SEO, etc., but some cases are a definite yes. Take our case, for instance– we went years with our old website that had outdated content, wasn’t clear about what we did especially after we switched gears with our offers, and didn’t aesthetically align with the direction we were heading.

Now that we’ve gone through with the redesign, we’ve never been happier. We feel our website does a great job in conveying what we do, our personalities, our mission, and funneling in prospects. If you aren’t sure if a new website design is the next move for you, here are 5 signs that it’s time for a change.

Heck, we’ve even landed a high 5-figure client, because our website confirmed for them that we were the ones they wanted to work with.

1. Your Visitors are Confused About What You Do

Your website copy is just as important as the design. When visitors land on your site, they should be able to tell what it is you do in the first few seconds with a clear headline. According to Eksposure, “...it takes just 50 milliseconds (0.05 seconds) for a user to decide whether they like or dislike a website" (source). Since your About page is the second most visited page on your website after your homepage, it’s important that we utilize your copy and layout to offer direction and insight into how you can help. The chances are slim that someone will take the time to reach out for more context, especially when exiting your site is easier. When prospects don’t know what you’re actually offering, they won’t know if they’re an ideal fit to work with you.

2. You’ve Changed Direction with Your Offers

It’s definitely time for a new website if you’ve started to offer a new service or have niched down in any way. It’s so easy for service providers to forget to readjust their site after a few years in business. When you get started you typically just throw up a web page or two that’s not really speaking to your ideal client. It might be time to refine your copy so you can both attract and repel your website traffic accordingly. If you feel embarrassed to send traffic to your site because you know it’s not a representation of who you are today then it’s time for a refresh.

3. Your Website is Pretty but Not Functional

This is our favorite problem to face, because here at Boss Project we believe in intentional design. Meaning, every website we create is stunning (shoutout to the three art majors on our team), but also very strategic in the design and layout. Essentially, we know how to get more of your traffic to convert to prospects so that you can actually land more clients. If your current website traffic is confused or if the leads you’re getting from it are not a good fit at all, it’s time for a redesign.

4. Your Website Prioritizes Function Over Aesthetics

This is the total opposite of number three.  You may think because your business is more on the corporate or white-collar side that aesthetics aren’t as important as if you were a designer of some sort. However, you could have a seamless navigation and visitors can easily find exactly what they’re looking for, but you don’t want your website to come across as boring or lacking a personality. Often, visitors will associate the feelings they get from your website with the person behind the business.

5. You Want Your Website to Work For You

If your goal isn’t to just have a source of information about your business, but a source of business by funneling in new prospects and converting them into leads, then it’s absolutely time for a new website design. There's a strategy behind the design of every website, and that’s a strategy we put major effort into when designing websites for our clients. We believe an intentionally-designed website is the missing ingredient most service based business owners are missing.

If you want to work with a design team that not only takes aesthetics and functionality into consideration but builds powerhouses for conversion, then we’d love to chat with you. Just schedule a time to chat with us here about your website needs!
