How Content Creation is the Key to Building a Sustainable Business

If you’re reading this post, we’re going to assume you’re at the point where you’ve developed an offer and are starting to get consistent sales or clients. This is what we like to call your “right now” money. You’ve figured out your MVP (most viable product), put a price tag on it, and have managed to start selling it, hopefully like hot cakes.

While that’s amazing for you, truly what is the key to building a sustainable business? Sure, you can keep getting referrals, cold pitching, or paying for ads, but there’s one marketing strategy that will guarantee eyes on your business for years to come.

Content creation.

Let’s dig into what exactly this means and how it’s the key to building a sustainable business!

The Difference Between “Right Now” Money and Long Term Money

As we mentioned before, your right now money is what you’re making now that you’ve developed your offer and are starting to see consistent sales whether that be from referrals, ads, word of mouth, or sending out cold pitches. You’re managing to sell your offer directly to people and they’re buying. Congrats!

But what happens after you’ve gotten your right-now money? You must have other avenues for people to stumble across your offer, and that’s where content creation comes into play, specifically long term content.

What’s Long Term Content?

Long term content is content that never expires and is always relevant (another word for it would be evergreen). It can live forever, and people will continue to find it useful no matter when they come across it. We have blog posts from 5 and 6 years ago when we first started our business that make up 30-35% of our total web traffic today.

Offers that we haven’t actively talked about in a long time are still getting sales thanks to this long term content that links to it. New people are finding us through these older posts and are then able to see what we’re up to and what we have to offer currently.

How Content is a Money-Making Machine

Disclaimer: We aren’t saying you need to be cranking out content in all the places. That would be totally unrealistic and overwhelming for a one-person show.

With that being said though, our blog, YouTube channel, podcast, email list, and social media are avenues that we’re able to rely on every single month as a money-making, audience-building machine. Of course, there’s stuff we’re doing every month to fuel it, like creating new content, but once it’s there, the traffic and value it brings is pretty evergreen.

If you can start by simply writing a few blog posts per month or even just recording YouTube videos, you’ll quickly build up your library of content to attract audiences today and in the future. And once you start repurposing it, content creation won’t seem like this giant beast you have to slay every day. How We Make Money with Our Content

To put this simply: We have CTAs (call-to-actions) everywhere. Our Instagram bio has a Linktr.ee page with buttons to all of our stuff, we’re sure to post valuable content and promotion to our Facebook groups, we have multiple email funnels plus the occasional promo emails to our entire list (but we always send a weekly value-add email), we have ads in our podcast episodes, and we include CTAs everywhere on our blog and website.

As a matter of fact, the place we probably have the most CTAs is our blog. They aren’t overwhelming, and we aren’t pointing to someplace after every sentence. Rather, we have post-blog and sidebar graphics that show other cool stuff readers can check out. We highly recommend using these kinds of graphics on your blog— so much so that we even created templates in The Creative Template Shop just for that purpose!

Our Opt-In Banner Bundle includes templates to insert mid-blog, post-blog, and in your sidebar. Your CTAs definitely won’t go unnoticed when you have them strategically placed with beautiful imagery to aid!

You can grab these templates for just $47 when you become a member of The Creative Shop Co-op. Not only does The Co-op unlock instant downloadable access to all current and future templates, but you also get access to The Co-op Facebook group, monthly strategy calls, and exclusive access to a members-only private podcast where we break down the strategy behind each new template release. There’s nothing else like it, to say the least!

Now you know what long term content is and how it’s the key to building a sustainable business! Although content creation can seem overwhelming, it’s truly the best method of ensuring you have as many eyes on your offer as possible from all different avenues.
