We are talking about something that might make some of you cringe, but we really want you to stick around for this one. The unique perspective Reina brings to sales funnels is actually REALLY good. She works with a lot of creatives. She knows how our brains work and created a new method for thinking about bringing our clients, our audience, and our customer on a journey with us. She knows how to set it up in a way that makes sense; where you are profitable and giving away content. We are asking her what she thinks when people say they are worried about giving away too much for free, what comes first, the free content or the paid content, and how to fill the spaces in between. Believe us when we say this episode is jam-packed and you are going to love it.

What Is A Funnel?

People freak the heck out about sales funnels because they’re very hyped up and you’re “supposed” to have them. They think it’s very, very complicated. Somebody comes into your funnel because of an opt-in. There’s a billion different emails and pieces. You have to send this and that. Then, maybe, they give you some money. That’s kind of how it feels to hear the conversations about funnels. Reina has a very simplified way of talking about them and has a couple different ways that benefit people in terms of visibility and organization of your intellectual property. Basically, in our businesses, the things that we talk about are called verticals. They ended up looking like funnels when Reina built them out for her company but really, it started as a way for Reina to organize her intellectual property and create products down the line. It’s really your responsibility to organize and curate content that serves your people.

Walk Through The Method

How does Reina walk people through this method? It can be a couple of different things, but Reina’s method is about really listening to your people. See whether they’re interested in one of your free programs and building products around that, or get feedback from them. Find out what they’re interested in and what they’re looking to get from you. It really is just listening to your people and building something out on what they’re craving. Getting feedback is crucial for being able to know what you need to be spending your energy, time and money on. Anytime you are visible, you want to connect people to this thing and the talking points and the teaching points. It’s thoughtfully strategic.

Finding Your Secret Sauce

It’s important to have your secret sauce that makes, not only you and your business unique but sets apart your products from anything else out here. The first thing you need is a belief statement. The secret sauce is what we say and the way we talk. Think about the way you talk about your company and the way you believe in your products. That is one way of finding your secret sauce. Another way is to think about what pisses you off. The two practices Reina suggests is what you believe about your product about and then what fires you up. The last thing Reina likes to teach is finding your superpower. Brand your superpowers. Whenever there’s something a lot of people are talking about, putting your secret sauce on it, adding your philosophy, and then naming it creates a brand new perspective people can really resonate with. Showing your work and getting feedback on it will refine your message.

Is There A Limit To Free?

Many people are so scared they’re giving away too much stuff for free and won’t end up having anything left to sell. Is there a limit to giving away free content? According to Reina, this is a tricky thing, but if you’re at the beginning and you really have no way to receive feedback, she encourages you to give it away. Give it away and test it. See what feedback you get from your test and build further with that feedback. The most important part is getting your confidence to the level that can match a dollar value. Then package it up so you can have somebody pay for it. That’s Reina’s general philosophy. She would rather be generous and get feedback than hoard information, not get any feedback, and not make any money.

Slow Down And THINK

If people are new in this business, they are looking to consume so much information and Reina wants to caution everyone. As a podcaster, she sometimes has to tell people to stop binges. You are spending your week not actually doing anything. Not only does it not help her, it doesn’t help you either. You need to start thinking more instead of regurgitating information. Reina often talks about the VST technique of thinking through your business. If you don’t have a solid vision, you’re not going to have a solid strategy. Then any tactics you put into place are not going to work. Vision. Strategy. Tactics. When we slow the heck down to think about what’s really important, we realize what we want to be productive about and how we really want to convert our people. From that, we are able to make an impact. Whether it is impacting your personal life or making an impact by educating your community, people need to work at their own pace. Slow the heck down and start using your brains.

The Big Plan For The Creative Mind

Reina’s book, The Big Plan for The Creative Mind, will be coming out around Halloween. She’s collaborating with Dannie Fountain and they have interviewed 13 incredible entrepreneurs who are leaders in their industries. They are all creatives. It’s really interesting because typically Reina’s clients are very right-brained, heart-centered and she finds when the topic of “goal setting” comes up, they say it’s never worked for them. Reina believes you can be both creative and be an efficient goal setter. If you don’t have a goal, then you’re not going to make it to your destination. Reina wants to show that creatives can be really efficient and hit their goals as long as they can lean into the idea that goal setting can be done.
