So in this episode we are going to dive into starting with your MVP and what that means, and then explain to you kind of how we kept that top of mind in our own creative business journeys. Now, we are not talking about the most valuable player on your baseball team. No, it is your most viable product. What is the thing that you can sell today without having to learn a new skill, without having to go to school or take a class? What can you bring to market right away that you can sell and make money off of? This is exactly the thing that people need to be focusing on instead of other fluff.

Getting Your Feet Wet and Jumping Into Your Creative Biz

The hardest part of starting a business is figuring out exactly what that business will be. To start, think about what it is in your life that you are already good at. What do people come to you for? What are people calling you about? It is often the things that you are giving away for free that you could be charging money for. The secret is out. Most of the time, this thing you could be offering is a service. I think a lot of people want to run a product-based business and hands down, I’m going to cheer you on with that, it’s going to be so amazing. But to get your foot out the door and to really start making more money, the best start is creating some sort of service based business that you can charge more for to get those clients in the door. With a service, all you need is your skills and a website.

Making Small Pivots from Beginning to Dream Business

A lot of us think that after your first offer, your very next move is to offer the ideal thing that you have always dreamt of. However, sometimes it takes time. Sometimes it takes making these small pivots and small changes to ultimately get you where you want to go, and you just can’t rush it. There is no magic pill or quick solution to make fast money. We all want the life that we have been dreaming of, but it will take time, taking small steps every day to get there. You have to set out a realistic vision for yourself, which might mean making some little changes along the way to get you closer and closer to that ideal place. It takes us making the scary decisions, it takes us making the leaps, it takes us sacrificing on some stuff now in order to even be shown where we are supposed to be.

Transitioning From One-On-One Clients to Courses

Being in business, oftentimes your clients don’t know what they want, regardless of industry. You have to tell them what they want and you have to guide them through the process, so your first pivot often becomes narrowing down your product lineup. Become really clear on what you have to offer, without a lot of fluff or extras. Next, start to change the way you speak about your business, the language you use, and start emphasizing the characteristics and needs of your ideal client. Keep in mind, you do not just magically go from offering one thing to offering another. There is a transition period. You have to change the conversation online about yourself and the services or products you offer before the business catches up to it.

Communicating Your Business Pivot

Once you have decided to make a pivot in your business, it is crucial to ensure a smooth transition. However, this does not mean that you have to tell everyone everything straight away. You do not owe anyone an explanation for what you are doing or why. You have the freedom to define what your business looks like, how it sounds, what it offers, and who it is talking to whenever you want. Instead, start by changing the conversation, and speaking to your audience differently on social media and creating a different strategy behind it. Slowly change the copy on your website, and what you put an emphasis on. Above all, go into it with an open mind and know that the conversation can change even if other things are still happening.

You don’t necessarily know that a transition is happening until you’re on the other side.

Focusing On the Future of Your Business

The thing you need to focus on as you start to transition and start to think about what that pivot is going to be, is your future. Think about your life and lifestyle and what you want it to be like later. Then, as you transition, figure out how you want your income streams to be set up so that you can plan for your future. Eventually, you want to find a way to implement a strategy so that your income is a little less tied to your time and more automatically flowing and passive. Focus on the reason of why you want to transition in the first place. Because if you have that on top of mind, if you think about what you want to change in your work life, that’s what’s going to keep driving you forward.
