Setting Oprah-Sized Goals and Making Them a Reality

We have big dreams. And we are just going to guess that because you managed your way onto this specific page, you do as well.

But when you dream big…. Like Oprah big, things can get a little overwhelming.

Let us ease your troubled heart for a bit. Oprah never knew she was going to be Oprah. Beyoncé didn’t know she was going to be Beyoncé. Mark Zuckerberg didn’t know he was going to invent Facebook. And Steve Jobs, had no idea what Apple would become.

The thing they do have in common, however, is that they dreamed big and they never stopped dreaming. When Oprah landed her own talk show, she didn’t stop a season or two in. She continued to make it bigger and better. Steve didn’t start with the iPhone. Great things take time, sometimes even decades.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.”
- Steve Jobs

What we tend to forget when setting goals is that we need to actually put them within reach. Big, but not so big they are out of reach or out of touch. Day 1 of opening our business we could not have imagined hoping to make a half a million dollars this year. Day 1 we just wanted to replace the salary from our other jobs.

Now instead of breaking down a formula to make them a reality (which we could do) we need to start at the beginning, with a few principles to live by.

  1. Be willing to work really hard.
  2. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t.
  3. Follow your passion.
  4. Believe your dreams are worth pursuing.
  5. Take one small step in the right direction everyday and you will be that much closer.

If that seems like something you can handle then get excited for part 2.

We’re going to change it up a bit and  give you some audio homework - yes, all ya gotta do is listen up.

Ready for more? Yeah, yeah, we already know you are working on teacher's pet status. We highly recommend you listen to The Making of Oprah. It’s a pretty amazing reminder that even Oprah is just like you and me.
