Creative Market  is a gorgeous, addictive hub of the best design resources to help your brand stand out from the crowd.

So what are the Creative Market and Canva basics so you don’t waste your precious time or money buying those stunning rose gold graphics or custom scene creator packages, that you won’t be able to use in Canva?

I’ll also cover:

  1. The difference between PNG and JPG files and when to use which in Canva (01:11).
  2. The font types compatible with Canva.
  3. Two other Creative Market and Canva essentials like free goodies and legal tips.

Let’s get started!

Video Summary

1. Graphics, elements and those pretty rose gold objects (00:23)

The most important thing to look for, when it comes to borders, graphics and even those fancy floral elements, is that the MAJORITY of the files under “File Types”, should be PNG or JPG.

You will NOT be able to use PSD (Photoshop), AI, or EPS files in Canva.

Pro Tip: If the file types are not clear in the product description, go to File Types > Click on All Files and see the breakdown of files are included with the product.

2. Using Creative Market Fonts in Canva:(01:50)

When it comes to the fonts, the following formats are compatible with Canva for Work:

  • Open Type Font (.otf)
  • True Type Font (.ttf)
  • Web Open Font (.woff)

Fonts purchased on Creative Market should come in one of these three options.

Pro tip: You can upload up to 10 fonts, in the Brand Kit section of your Canva for Work. Note that if you delete your uploaded fonts, any designs created with the deleted font will still feature that font.

Also see How to upload your own fonts to Canva and Font licensing.

3. What else do we need to know when buying Creative Market products? (02:20)

Check out the weekly free goodies on Creative market and make sure that you’re staying legal by reading the terms of use of both Creative Market and the seller. For more information about staying legal with your Canva designs, check out this legal with Canva interview I did with Tamsen Horton.

When in doubt, contact the seller directly. It’s seems boring, and an extra step to cover your legal booty, but it makes you look legit and keeps you safe.
